![]() From north to south, the Black Forest extends for over 160 km (100 mi), attaining a width of up to 50 km (30 mi) in the south and 30 km (20 mi) in the north. ![]() In the west it is bounded by the Upper Rhine Plain (which, from a natural region perspective, also includes the low chain of foothills) in the east it transitions to the Gäu, Baar and hill country west of the Klettgau. The Black Forest stretches from the High Rhine in the south to the Kraichgau in the north. Geography Woods and pastures of the High Black Forest near Breitnau Several areas of storm damage, both large and small, were left to nature and have developed today into a natural mixed forest again. The effects of the storm are demonstrated by the Lothar Path, a forest educational and adventure trail at the nature centre in Ruhestein on a highland timber forest of about 10 hectares that was destroyed by a hurricane. As had happened following the 1990 storms, large quantities of fallen logs were kept in provisional wet-storage areas for years. On 26 December 1999, Cyclone Lothar raged across the Black Forest and caused even greater damage, especially to the spruce monocultures. In 1990, extensive damage to the forest was caused by a series of windstorms. In the middle of the 19th century, the Black Forest was almost completely deforested by intensive forestry and was subsequently replanted, mostly with spruce monocultures. At the higher elevations spruce also grew. Originally, the Black Forest was a mixed forest of deciduous trees and firs. Examples include the multiple baroque fieldworks of Margrave Louis William of Baden-Baden or individual defensive positions such as the Alexanderschanze (Alexander's Redoubt), the Röschenschanze and the Schwedenschanze ( Swedish Redoubt). Remnants of military fortifications dating from the 17th and 18th centuries can be found in the Black Forest, especially on the mountain passes. Further peasant unrest, in the shape of the saltpetre uprisings, took place over the next two centuries in Hotzenwald. Some of the uprisings (including the Bundschuh movement) that preceded the 16th century German Peasants' War, originated in the Black Forest. These include, for example, Rötenbach, which was first mentioned in 819. Soon afterwards, increasingly higher areas and adjacent forests were colonized, so that by the end of the 10th century, the first settlements could be found in the red (bunter) sandstone region. They settled and first colonized the valleys, crossing the old settlement boundary, the so-called "red sandstone border", for example, from the region of Baar. the baths in Badenweiler, and mines near Badenweiler and Sulzburg) and the construction of the Roman road of Kinzigtalstraße, the colonization of the Black Forest was not carried out by the Romans but by the Alemanni. ![]() With the exception of Roman settlements on the perimeter (e.g. They, in turn, were part of the Germanic tribe of Suebi, who subsequently gave their name to the historic state of Swabia. The Black Forest probably represented the border area of the Marcomanni ("border people") who were settled east of the Roman limes. In Roman times ( Late antiquity), it was given the name Silva Marciana ("Marcynian Forest", from the Germanic word marka = "border"). In ancient times, the Black Forest was known as Abnoba mons, after the Celtic deity, Abnoba. Historically, the area was known for forestry and the mining of ore deposits, but tourism has now become the primary industry, accounting for around 300,000 jobs. Roughly oblong in shape, with a length of 160 kilometres (100 miles) and breadth of up to 50 km (30 mi), it has an area of about 6,009 km 2 (2,320 sq mi). And Indra herself likely *becomes* one of the Rusalki, specifically "Ophelia." One, her face as depicted in the end credits looks an awful lot like Ophelia's face in the first. She is now completely inorganic, no longer worries about going back to Earth, and is no longer willing to call herself "Indra." So what do Drushka and her find? Well, they likely created the Rusalki. She goes to Drushka to try to go "upstream" to find more powerful technology to help turn Arms like Damu back. By the end of Axiom Verge 2, Indra has become a completely separate being from her original human form, which perishes holding off Amashilama in the end. This is why Athetos appears in the end and tells him to "wake up." The "home" that Trace is sent to in the end of the first is a false one, a dream conjured up by the the Rusalki "Veruska," who is referred to as "The Dreamer" who creates "mind worlds" (or at least the only Rusalki willing to admit it, whatever that means). But Trace/Athetos did not reach Sudra until after the events of Axiom Verge 2, and by that time the Rusalki were created. He developed the theory of everything with Hammond, and Hammond went on to create the ansibles and open up a way to Kiengir (the world from the second). Trace did endure the blast that robbed him of his sight and left him crippled, but he did not end up in Sudra at that point. The Trace you play as in the first is a clone of Athetos who could have come into existence at any time after Athetos released the pathogen. This is how the Rusalki and such were all created. Drushka had the ability to go "upstream" in worlds, which have higher levels of technology. "Rusalki," the term for the computer beings from the first, comes from the Slavic term for a mermaid like being, the spirits of drowned women, rusalka (hence why Elsenova refers to herself as a water machine or something?). Drushka, the leader of the Kazahks in the Emergence, is referenced by name in logs in the first. "The Emergence" is just Sudra (the planet from the first) from long before Athetos arrived. The final boss was definitely meh though.Īxiom Verge 2 is a prequel to the first. I think maybe they could have used a different BGM to denote their presence though. On the whole I didn't find the bosses to be very disappointing at all, I thought they were pretty much in line with the first Axiom Verge's bosses, which were generally actually pretty basic. It lacks the finality of the first Axiom Verge's ending. When I figured out those weird eye rock things I felt so dang clever. ![]() ![]() ![]() Overall it's a great game at making you feel smart. Hayward has become the battered face of BP's efforts to contain the Gulf of Mexico oil spill and clean up the damage. The change in leadership will not change the mammoth tasks ahead for BP, from stopping the offshore oil gusher for good, to cleaning up the millions of gallons that have already leaked, to paying billions in claims - all while defending its stock price and repairing its battered reputation. Paying $39 per year for the honor of earning 1.5% cash back is ridiculous. There are a number of credit cards on the market that offer 2% cash back everywhere with no annual fee and plenty without an annual fee which offer either even higher cash back rates in the first year or ongoing rotating categories.
